Belgian Waffles

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions:

1. Preheat the Waffle Iron:

Preheat your Belgian waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Most waffle irons have a heat setting that allows you to adjust the browning level.

2. Prepare the Dry Ingredients:

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Sifting helps to remove any lumps and aerates the dry ingredients.

3. Combine the Wet Ingredients:

In another bowl, whisk the large eggs until they’re well beaten. Then add the whole milk, melted unsalted butter, and pure vanilla extract. Mix until all the wet ingredients are combined.

4. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:

Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture and stir until the batter is just combined. Be careful not to overmix; it’s okay if there are some lumps. Overmixing can make the waffles tough.

5. Grease the Waffle Iron:

Lightly grease the waffle iron with a small amount of oil or non-stick cooking spray.

6. Cook the Waffles:

Pour an appropriate amount of batter onto the preheated waffle iron. The amount of batter you need will depend on the size and design of your waffle iron, so refer to your manufacturer’s instructions.

7. Close the Waffle Iron:

Close the waffle iron and cook the waffles according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Usually, the waffles will be golden brown and crisp when they’re done, which can take around 3-5 minutes.

8. Remove and Serve:

Carefully remove the cooked waffles from the iron and place them on a plate or a wire rack. If you’d like to keep them warm while you cook more, you can place them in a preheated oven at around 200°F (93°C).

9. Serve with Toppings:

Serve your Belgian waffles hot with a variety of toppings such as maple syrup, fresh berries, whipped cream, powdered sugar, chocolate chips, or even a dollop of yogurt or ice cream, depending on your preference.

Enjoy your homemade Belgian waffles for a delightful breakfast or brunch treat!
